Happy Nunavut Day

July 9, 2010

July 9th is for celebrating my VERY favourite territory, Nunavut. It was an incredible 3 years of my life spent living there and sometimes I feel nauseous when I think about how I might not get back. But tomorrow is another day and I can’t live my life expecting I’ll never be back. I might be back. Here are a few photos to show you just how incredibly gorgeous this corner of the universe is. Today will be spent with celebration and parades. I’ll be sad to miss the festivities, and to miss spending it with all the special people that are up north. So sit around a campfire, eat some seal and bannock, get bitten by some mosquitoes and watch the sun stay in the sky all night long. I hope your Nunavut Day is amazing!

This is what I saw out of my living room window for 3 years

On our way back to town, running away from the potential bears

The baby fits in the back pouch, separate from the hood. It kept us both warm.

That shot you took the morning where the water was so still is still one of my favorites.

We’ve had a wonderful Nunavut Day here in Pang. The crowd was huge for the bbq and the face painting was a big hit. I only got into one fight with the one woman who couldn’t seem to understand the concept that I was excluding her kids because I asked them to stand in line with everyone else. She actually reported me to the corporal! There’s one in every group!

Your photos are stunning. I love how you wore the traditional outdoor clothing and embraced the life so fully. x

What wonderful memories…it’s been 2 years and I still miss it! Nothing exciting like running away from polar bears has happened to me lately, lol!
