The birds are really liking the feeder… even these ugly rat looking ones. They done cleared me out!

Ezri, who refers to herself as Eswee has a real Boston style accent. Her sister is Noweese and sometimes mommy is Casey (crazy). She can’t say her “R’s”, they end up being pretty soft sounding, as well as a few other speech issues. She ends up sounding a lot like how I remember my Estonian grandmother used to speak. It’s like I live with a little foreigner. It’s pleasant being reminded of my grandmother every so often. There is something about the way she says Strawberry, “Staawbeddy”, that I find so charming.

Today I had the BEST conversation with her that showcased her special letter substitution and subtraction skills. As I pulled out the vacuum cleaner she said to me: “Mommy, are you going to backwoom?”

Me: “Backroom? No, I’m going to vacuum the living room”

Eswee:” Your going to BACKWOOM!”

Me: “I’m not going to the backroom.”

Eswee:”BACKWOOM, BACKWOOM.”

Me: “Oh. Do you mean Vacuum?”
I also like how she says Vikings, “Bikings”.

Yesterday afternoon it was so warm, we had the windows down. While sitting in downtown traffic, I hear Ezri yell out “HI THERE, MY NAME IS EZRI!”. She was talking to the lady driving the van next to us, who also had her window down. She said hello back. Then my 3 year old gave me heck for not also saying hello.

That evening we are driving home and I drive over a manhole cover that is sticking out of the ground. There is a small bump. My 3 year old pipes up from the back “What did you run over mommy”?

“Well, under the ground are all these pipes, this is water the water goes when it rains. The sewer covers are access to theses pipes. I tried to avoid driving over that one because it’s sticking out of the ground and I don’t want our car to get a boo boo, we love our car, don’t we?”

Two minutes pass..

Ezri: “If our car has a boo boo from driving over the waterholes we can give it a band-aide and a sticker. A green sticker. Our car likes green. It can have a green sticker AND a green lollipop.”

Yesterday I dug up dandelions in the front yard. Today my legs hurt so much, we only admired how many there were in the backyard. We spent a lot of time outside today just because it was beautiful. And HOT. We got sweaty and covered in dirt. It was sunshine for my soul. As I sat in my back garden, planting a few things, Ezri watered the dandelions. She was so happy and so was I. Then I felt cold water rolling down my back. Apparently since I was sitting in the garden, she thought I needed to be watered too, so I could “grow”.

One of the main issues we have when the weather gets nice, the cat gets out. But we always have someone bring him back.

I re-potted some of my plants and got my hands really dirty, that kind that’s hard to wash off. But I figure if you just don’t bother getting clean in the first place, you don’t worry so much when you get dirty again. At least this is how I tried to look at Ezri and watching her dirt crust develop throughout the day. When she finally covered herself with an ice cream beard and mitts, I thought what’s  just one more layer?

And just because you all deserve some sunshine today, here are some baby toes!

One thing that is keeping me cheerful are my new shoes. When I came home with them and showed them off to my husband, he said “Well…they are colourful”. I love them so much. I’m posting a photo of them just for my friend who mentioned that she didn’t like how flashy all little girls shoes were these days! And here I was for the longest time complaining why they didn’t make big girl shoes as flashy as the little girl ones! Rainbow Brite is really the only part of the 80′s I want to come back. Most of the other 80′s fashion trends I’ve been seeing lately can just pick themselves back up and return to 1980.

I got some new headbands for the girls from a wonderful mommy owned business called Sugar Pie Hair Clips. I say I got them for the girls, but maybe deep down I got them for myself. We can share. It’s a good lesson for them!

Does anyone else have a spouse that takes photos like a hurricane? It’s probably because I keep directing him to get the photo I want, he finally gets frustrated and just starts snapping off 60 frames a second. And then I end up spending 15 minutes of my time deleting wonderful photos like these…

I can’t really complain, because if it wasn’t for him, I’d never be in any photos.

We’ve been getting a few more sunny days so I thought it was best to head out and get some planting done. Of course in typical Canadian fashion, I had to plant my seeds into containers and then bring them right back inside. There are people in this world that can plant right into the ground I hear. Now, I thought this was going to be a great activity to do with Ezri, she could get dirty and it was hands on. Plus, isn’t this a normal kids activity? Don’t all those kids come home from school with little planted sunflowers? She didn’t want to do it because it was too dirty and then 30 seconds into planting all my seeds in random unmarked graves, she proclaimed she was too tired and going to take a break. Later, when complaining to my husband he said “What did you expect, gardening is one of the most boring activities in the world”. I guess that pretty much summed it up.

At least I planted fun stuff like warty pumpkins, Cinderella pumpkins, tri-coloured carrots and sunflowers that are supposed to grow to 16 feet, SUNZILLAS!!! I still have no idea what I’m doing, so I don’t expect much. But hey, it was worth jumping in and giving it a try. I even used all recycled materials to do it. If it works, I’ll be feeling like I got a bargain. If not, I totally watched my money compost away.

And then… I got a bird feeder. If this post wasn’t boring enough.

I was over at my sister-in-laws place on Easter weekend, admiring all the hungry little birds porking themselves sick on seeds. She had a few bird feeders just outside her windows and as I watched them stuff their beaks full, I felt my blood pressure drop. A relaxed, tingly sensation came over me. So naturally I went out and spent my husband’s hard earned money on a bird feeder. I texted him after the purchase “Thank you, I love my new bird feeder”.  Not realizing we were even going to acquire something so impractical, he said “I’m glad you like it, I got it just for you!”. What a wonderful husband. I can’t wait to see what I’m going to get myself for mother’s day!

So we filled the feeder and waited. No birds. We waited and watched. All of us gathering at the window was becoming a family event. The cats, the toddler and even the husband. We all wanted to see birds.

And in the morning we came down to see that indeed someone had been eating the porridge…

They had themselves jammed up the tree like they were in some kind of action packed, birdseed Matrix movie. And they were coming from every direction. The cats were in heaven, drooling with anticipation of squirrel meat.

So my husband moved the feeder down the tree branch, the rodents gave up and out came the birds.

I love my backyard. Now if I could only have chickens…silly by-laws!

Dear small, but charmingly chubby little person,

You are an entire half of a year old tomorrow. You are the master of pinching, scratching and screaming. You are no shrinking violet. Yet your laid back, chilled out personality speaks volumes for our future days spent drinking coronas on the beach. When your 19 or older of course.

No one seems to be able to make you laugh like your sister. Her pureness in the silly business seems to hit the right spot. You just light up when she walks in the room. I hope this lasts, but surely the hair pulling will start soon enough.

You like to snuggle. So much so, you don’t want to leave my side, even if it’s 4am. And somehow I end up with 2 inches of a king size bed.

You rock. I’m blessed. So blessed. I love you both tremendously. Something about getting barfed on, peed on, screamed at, and I still feel so loved and completely content. Other mothers will understand. Maybe my brains have been taken over by zombies? I love you. Happy 6 months.

I suppose real woman can do everything, all at the same time, while balancing on their head. Bet you never saw a man BBQ-ing with a baby on his back? It’s because us woman can do it all. Though, my sink full of dirty dishes may say otherwise.

Nerys has had a cold and been miserable the last few nights, and with sleep training, gowning pains and teething; she and I are not sleeping. We are both kind of feeling and looking like zombies. Which is totally appropriate because Ezri keeps calling us Zombies. I’m not sure why. I blame her father. She even introduces Nerys as “this is my zombie sister”. See that on her chin, it might be sweet potato, but it’s probably brains.
